Bern Watts Mens Skate Helmet 2010 Review

Bern Watts Mens Skate Helmet 2010I, like many people these days, have decided to start wearing a helmet when I ride to work everyday. I knew that I really wanted a Bern helmet as they seemed more stylish and safe compared to other brands. When I ordered the helmet, I knew that I wanted the Watts style - little did I know that what I ordered was not what I was going to get.

I was looking for a helmet that was certified to protect my brains. This helmet arrived and was called - a 'Hard Hat'- and that's pretty much all it was. it was not CPSC certified - nothing. it didn't meet a single bike helmet safety standard. Evidently there are 2 different styles of padding, but none of this information was listed on the product page. SO BEWARE - when you are ordering your helmet, make sure you are getting the features of a helmet that make it worth wearing!

More info next time!

Product Description:
Sometimes wearing a helmet can be a real drag. It can ruin your style. Feel too heavy. Dozens of other complaints arise. The Watts skate helmet by Bern is the solution to your issues. A top-shelf, best-in-show skate helmet that just happens to be light enough to go unnoticeable, the Watts meets all the criteria one might look for in a helmet - and more. Built as a hard hat with Brock Foam, a new head protection option for athletes not into wearing helmets, this multiple impact breathable foam keeps you cool and dry, allowing air to flow in all directions. The Watts also features the Sinch fit, a low-profile surrounding fit and feel, so constantly adjusting your helmet doesn't become an issue. EPS hard foam meets the snow and ski protection standards, and with the removable knit liner this Bern helmet protects your dome in summer too (you know, for skating and biking). It can get hot out there so Bern has installed full-time vents to help you maintain a cool head temp throughout the day. Another great feature is the Watts two foam construction, a waterproof EVA comfort foam and a patented multiple impact Brock foam that do not harbor moisture and dries quickly after each session, an excellent feature to have when you are out there working hard. So, if you are ready to start protecting your dome and still look cool, try the Bern Watts and skate with confidence. . Model Year: 2010, Product ID: 188516

Pro-Tec Ace SXP Mens Skate Helmet Review

Pro-Tec Ace SXP Mens Skate HelmetI ordered this helmet based on the seller's description, color, and size availability.I was quite disheartened once I received the helmet to find out that X-Large is slightly small on me.So I am writing this review based on looking the helmet over.As we all know, purchasing items such as these are a bit tricky for the mere fact that we cannot try them on.So here goes my review.

The good:

Very sturdy build. The outer shell is quite thick and looks like it will be able to handle a good amount of shock without cracking or splitting. The shell is mounted well onto the styrofoam mold, none of that cheap thin brittle plastic shell that is held by what looks like electrical tape wrapped around the entire edge commonly seen in the cheaper brands. The chin strap look like it would be comfortable to fit and wear. The inside styrofoam seems well formed and has a very good thickness to further absorb the shock that the outer shell allows to pass. The inside padding is well spaced and placed so that the helmet will evenly sit.Color is only a second thought to me, but the moss green type I ordered looks really good.I try and avoid ordering the real dark flat colors such as black or navy blue due to the fact that it gets quite warm when skating outdoors on a bright sunny day.But like I said, the color really has no bearing on my review of the helmet.Ventilation holes are plentyand well sized to allow for heat to escape.

The bad:

I guess not one type of helmet can accommodate varying shapes and sizes of craniums. This is the only bad I see in this helmet, as it pertains to me.The fit is good in the front, but along the top left and top right quarters of my head, I can feel the inner shell pressing too hard against my skull even without the chin strap fastened..If I was to force myself to wear the helmet, I would definitely end up getting a bad headache in a very short amount of time.

The good of this helmet definitely far outweighs the bad.Like I said, the bad only pertains to me.This helmet could be a perfect fit to others, but just not me.It would be unfair to knock this helmet down to 4 stars merely due to my head being large, lol.The 5 stars is definitely warranted for the build and type of quality this helmet brings to the table.

Product Description:
The Ace SXP has quickly became one of the most recognizable helmets in the park. That's because a few of Ace's top skaters like Bob Burnquist and Steve Caballero know the technology used in Ace helmets are necessary for protecting their skulls. Increased venting, an aero-styled shell and SXP impact technology is what makes the difference when compared to the competition. SXP is a liner that once it has been pressed in, SXP memory kicks in and the liner rebounds maintaining its absorbing qualities. If you have an aggressive style of skating and you don't own the Ace SXP you are taking a risk at not protecting your head with some of the most high-end brain bashing protective precautions. . Carrera Skate Black Review

Carrera Skate BlackI recently joined a local women's roller derby league, and our league administrator suggests for starters, we all buy the carrera skate. It's a great price, and you won't find the same quality in another skate for this price. You get a leather Riedell made boot, and sure-grip plates, so you know you're getting quality products.I recommend, if you didn't know already, that you buy a different set of wheels and bearings to change out as soon as you get them. The bearings aren't maintable, meaning you can't take em apart to clean them out like most others better quality bearings. Here's a slight warning though, I've been told it will take approx. 100 hours of skate time to truly break in these boots.Breaking in a leather boot isn't fun, and you will have blisters. If you have any form of shoe stretcher it seemed to help me a bit.

All in all I'm extremely happy with the purchase of the Carrera skates.Once they are no longer in good condition, and if I'm still really into derby, I might think about upgrading to a full leather Riedell boot. But for starting out or recreational usage (derby or otherwise) these are great.

Labeda STS-Pro Skate Black Review

Labeda STS-Pro Skate Blackwhen my skates came they only came with ABEC-3, when in the description they say ABEC-5.I was a little irritated, but I had already planned to switch the bearings with bones reds anyways.I wear a size 7 and ordered a men's size 6.The boot seemed a little narrow, and was a little tight. After a few hours of skating the boot seemed to break in, and is now really comfortable. The wheel nuts where on way to tight when I recieved the skates. After putting in new bearings and adjusting the wheel nuts, I get a really nice roll on the wheels.I like the big toe stop.I use these skates for roller derby. Most of the girls have the low top skates, but I wanted the ankle support so went with high tops. They support my ankles well.I like the design of the boot, but I am going to add a little more character with new wheels and shoe laces.Overall I am happy with my purchase.

Skorpion Multi-Terrain with 115mm wheels - Small (4-7.5) Review

Skorpion Multi-Terrain with 115mm wheels - SmallComfortable skates that take some getting used to because they are wide and the wheels are enormous, but all the better to ride on less than perfect surfaces. One suggestion.... upgrade the bearings. The originals are inexpensive to keep the cost of the skates down, and you will do yourself a big favor by getting high quality bearings to decrease the rolling resistance of the wheels. They should turn effortlessly for a bit after you spin a wheel with your hand.

8pk Hyper Agent Orange Inline wheels 90mm 89A durable Review

8pk Hyper Agent Orange Inline wheels 90mm 89A durableI figured that I would give this wheel a chance, for outside use.I am an avid inline fitness skater, who logs over 100 miles, weekly.I skate on four different pairs of skates and maintain them on a regular basis. It is true that the harder wheels will allow more life, however, I found them to be sluggish and slow, on paved surfaces. They also seemed to "catch" up on grooves or imperfections in the pavement.Normally, I skate on a 84 durometer wheel.I find the 84 durameter to be faster and more responsive on paved surfaces.I do not feel that the hyper wheel is an inferior wheel, as I have a couple of sets on my skates.I just feel that the 89 durometer is probably a better "fit" for an inside skater.

Product Description:
8 - 90mm wheels from Hyper--the #1 brand of wheel in the world. This is the high-end Agent Orange model--a top-quality wheel for an experienced skater or racer--very fast wheel. These wheels are a 90mm size which fits only a small subset of skates. If you are unsure, please check your skate to know if this wheel fits as it is very large and will not work with nearly all models of in-line skates. The 89A durometer is super-hard--harder than 99% of all wheels available. If you are sick and tired of buying expensive wheels and replacing them all the time, then this wheel is for you. It is extremely hard--that comes with some advantages and disadvantages. The big advantages are speed and durability. Because it is so hard and solid, your weight doesn't mush it down as it would a softer wheel. The footprint the wheel makes with the ground is smaller and the wheels roll with less resistance and friction. It is not soft at all--as a result it lasts like no other wheel you have ever used. The drawback to super hard wheels is that they give a less spongy ride. If you skate on bumpy, super-rough surfaces it will be a trade-off--you'll have wheels that last better, but ride a little less smooth. The wheel has an additive for extra grip and is marked as suitable for indoor use, however, it is also fantastic for outdoor use. Take my advice,--use it outdoors on roads, asphalt and other hard surfaces-the smoother the surfaces you skate on, the better this will be. The profile is built for speed. It is a tall and narrow with a core that adds a spline of support in the center of the wheel (if you sliced the wheel in half you could see it) giving you additional rebound when you push against the ground. With this wheel you get lots and lots of straight line speed. The hub is the standard 608 size--the kind that fits 99+% of all skates out in the world. The wheel is an orange color with a blue color core.

Pro-Tec Park Skate Knee Pads Review

Pro-Tec Park Skate Knee PadsI purchased the Army Green knee pads for protection when playing airsoft on the rocky Texas terrain. For its function as aprotection from sharp blows, these pads are excellent. Other criteria for good knee pads are a secure fit, and comfort. These have been the most secure pads I've owned, and I've used at least four different models from my days playing paintball.

My initial discomfort with this pads however is the reason for the 4-star rating. Let me first say that my experience can be subjective, as these pads are designed for skate park use. As you can see from the photos, these pads have a natural bend to them, supporting a bent-knee stance common among bladers or bike riders. For airsoft and paintball, the wearer is likely standing up or running with legs extended. This causes the bottom edge of the pad to dig into the shin or bottom knee cap. I have several friends who have owned these pads for a while, and they say the discomfort will go away after the padding has broken in. I sure hope so, because then I would rate the Park pads a solid five.

Chicago Boy's Sidewalk Skate Review

Chicago Boy's Sidewalk SkateI chose the Chicago brand from past experience, and I was not disappointed. We are a three generation family of Chicago skate users, and the quality of workmanship is still there after all these years. Rollerblade Fury Aggressive Skates Review

Rollerblade Fury Aggressive SkatesIf you are not sure your child will get into aggressive inline skating, you might want to get these. However, if they like the sport, they will most certainly want a REAL pair of aggressive skates within a month. Having decent equipment makes all the difference. I would recommend Razor or USD Junior skates which run around 100 bucks and are adjustable up to 4 sizes. The TRS Junior skate by rollerblade is better than this Fury skate, but not nearly as good as the other 2 junior skates mentioned. If you are not a junior size, I would recommend any other Rollerblade aggressive models...some are as cheap as 130$ or any Razor models.I have been skating for 11 year and have taught for many years.

It feels like my toes are being smooshed and I have to keep taking them off and putting them back on while taking my hand and pushing up on the front of the boot from the inside to get it to where my toes don't feel smooshed. The wheels do not go very fast.I know this is a beginner speed skate but they feel too tight.I can't skate on skating rink carpeting.I have to "walk" on them because the wheels don't want to go.Overall, I'm not very happy w/this purchase.

Rollerblade Pro Gear 3 Pack Review

Rollerblade Pro Gear 3 PackI bought this set to go with my Razor Pro kick scooter, which I got to keep up with my four-year old on his scooter rides.I'm 6', average-proportioned/sized guy, and I had some doubts about ordering XL as opposed to just Large, in case the XL set ended up being too large.I finally figured it'd be better to have it a bit too big than a bit too small, so I opted for XL.

The set consists of three pairs of protective gear, for the knees, elbows, and wrist/palm.The elbow and knee pads have stretchy backing, and you pull them through your legs/arms.After properly positioning them, the stretchy velcro strips (about 1" wide) keep them secure in place.

The elbow pads are fine for me, but the knee pads--XL and all--are almost, but not quite, too small for me.My wife says I have "tree-trunk" legs, so that may have something to do with it.I can still wear the knee pads fine, but the velcro pads are a bit too short to go fully around.I can still use them, though.I may do a bit of home-DIY sewing to extend the length of the velcro strap.

The wrist/palm guards are a lot like the wrist braces.A bent piece of rubber-coated metal wrapped in velcro/stretchy brace.Comfortable to wear, although it gets in the way of gripping the scooter handles (figures, as the set probably is designed for rollerblading and not scooter riding).I will probably forego the wrist guards and continue using my cycling gloves.

The components seem well made and durable. For $22 that I paid for the set, I am happy enough with them.I gave it four-star because I feel like an XL set for adults should really be large enough to accommodate those who are larger than my 6ft frame.

The boot is super comfy and supportive and the wheel/frame setup puts the big 90mm wheels very close together creating speed and maneuverability without a high/low setup which makes wheel rotation less challenging.

Bravo Dora Junior Adjustable Skates Review

Bravo Dora Junior Adjustable SkatesThese skates are great for children just learning to skate. It is easiest for kids to learn on "walking skates" rather than the lace up ones.My daughter loves these! The second time we took her skating and she was doing it all by herself out in the middle of the floor - no help needed. The only bad thing about these skates is the package says size 6-12, but in all reality it only fits up to a size 10 shoe.At least that is the way it is with my daughter, who now wears a size 10.We bearly get her tennis shoe in these skates - no room to grow.

Ripstik Caster Board Review

Ripstik Caster BoardI am 44 years old.I bike, I ski, I in-line skate. When I first saw a college student riding one of these, I asked him about it.He said "try it!"I almost did, but I didn't, for fear I would fall and die.I mean, only two wheels? And I didn't have my helmet with me.
I finally broke down and bought one after seeing some cool videos on the internet. After putting on my helmet, and my knee and elbow pads and my wrist guards, I took it out into the parking lot today.
The first ride is very scary, like riding a buttered block of ice, and lasts only about 1 second. After about five rides I'm up to five seconds and smiling my butt off.
For the next half hour I can't stop smiling, even when I fall off (once). After this time, I'm able to make left turns, and I can even go uphill by doing a sort of manic twist to gain momentum. My longest ride is about 30 seconds.
If you consider yourself coordinated, well-balanced, and reasonably athletic, I recommend this product to you, regardless of your age.It works perfectly, and presents a new athletic challenge that is well worth mastering. The independent steering of the front and back wheels adds a whole new dimension to the fun.The challenge of staying on the board will get you sweating without even realizing you are exercising.
The Ripstik Caster Board is a revolutionary product, just as significant, I think, as the in-line skate.Buy one before you get too old for it.

K2 Etu Mens Inline Skates Review

K2 Etu Mens Inline SkatesFYI Im coming from a background skating really hard agressive boots--so the whole soft boot thing (even if its made of plastic water bottles) took a lot of getting used to.At first I could barely skate on these things, now I cruise around quite quickly, albeit with less total control/turning power and thrust.

The plus's: recycled/sustainable materials--really sleek looking too I might add
Cruisin on bamboo is quite a thrill

Sadly: the bamboo chips easily, the laces have no quick lace system, the plastic buckle is a hassle to click into place and the sewn on D ring for the velcro stabilizer strap never stays in place, constantly warping the velcro strap when I go to tighten my boot (but this has made lacing up a much more zen like experience, the bamboo helps too) One of the biggest problems is the wheels they put out with this skate--Ive had this pair less than a month, just about to rotate them when I find my wrenches--but the wheels are so degraded its unbelievable.I would be going through 12 pairs a year, but Ill just put some better ones on next time.

I do like the big handy straps on it, to carry and pull my foot into the boot--always nice

Other than that--not sure if Amazon advertised this, but some site said it would include an extra shorter axle to take off the back brake--I didnt find one..so I had to cut off the brake pad so I could still use the longer axle in back.

For my purposes (zipping around quickly, while having the ability to be a little rougher/have more fun/maneuverability) I would have been better off with a crossover boot (half agro/half fitness--a hardboot with nice big wheels and not grind plate). Sadly I went the eco friendly route, which only served to make myself feel better for a slight bit, then feel harshly burned for paying over price for a hyped up product (as most green marketing goes...)All in all its not a bad skate if you really want to just ride around a track/trail...but its too delicate for real road riding.

Mission Soldier Black Inline Hockey Skates 2009 Review

Mission Soldier Black Inline Hockey Skates 2009So mission may have lightweight skates, but the new technology can not endure the duress of intermediate-advanced level play. after a few months (I play about once a week, and im 6'0, 175lbs), the outsole (bottom of boot) started bending inward, causing the chassis to be at an angle from the boot..hence causing me to skate at an angle even though i would stand straight up in the boot. Skates went back on warranty. I'd personally rather have heavier skates that can hold up in regular play. My old missions from 1999 are still usable (though beat up and ducktaped numerous times) and never had the problem.

Tech 4 O B1 Inline Skate Speedometer Review

Tech 4 O B1 Inline Skate SpeedometerI am looking forwardto getting this back.. first it doesn't come with a wheel,so you have to call the company,,Johnson Outdoor ,and order a wheel, and after that I couldn't get the watch to read the puck in the wheel,so I figured maybe the battery was to weak, so I called the company, and they had no batteries ,so said to send it to them, It seems like it will be a good item when I finally get it all working,, and it is funny,Amazon asked for my response the same day I sent it back to the company. I will be glad to write, hopefully a good review when I get it all together.. Frank
